Title: Hello from Greenlaw
Post by: nptohc on June 05, 2008, 11:27:37 AM
Hi all,

This is Andy Jones from Greenlaw in the Scottish Borders.

I use a WMR928NX with Weather Display - in the coming months the Weather Station is going to get moved from its current location at the back of the house to the Garden.
I also have a Boltek lightning detector on order - which can only help to improve the accuracy of the various lightning triangulation networks :D

Feel free to ask me any questions...

Andy Jones

Hi Andy,

Welcome to the forum.
Hopefully we'll get the clientraw detection problem sorted out soon.
Can you check your location on the main map and let me know if it's correct.  ;)

Martin.

Fair enough.  ;D

Lightning can be very impressive, but is best viewed from a good distance!

A few years ago there was a big electrical storm here. Around 300 telecoms faults in Skye & Lochalsh if I recall, including a burnt out ISDN wall box and T/A of our very own.  :(

At least that was fixed in a few days. IIRC one village had their main connector cable blown out of the ground and I think some people were without a phone for several weeks...

Hi Andy, what is a Boltek lightning detector?

Sounds fun.

What computer programme are you using?

Welcome indeed!  I'll be looking for your lightening data  :o

The thundery activity here this evening wasn't so bad.  Most computers here were deliberately off line for about 3 hours just to play safe.  The weather station PC is on a UPS which tripped a couple of times and the ADSL has been up and down a bit too.  I look on the bright side..... as posted elsewhere, we achieved a new 1-hour rain rate record out of it! ;)

One of these (http://www.boltek.com/) and WeatherShop (http://www.ukweathershop.co.uk/acatalog/storm.html) sell them in the UK (and others too)....Astrogenic Nexstorm/StormVue (http://www.astrogenic.com/) are the software progs generally used.

It's just not quite what I was expecting is all.....

all I shall say is my order appears to have had a bit of an upgrade.... but I'll leave it at that....

oh poo!!

having just read the instruction manual - it would appear that my little "upgrade" is not quite as good as I first thought!!!

bummer!
